Alec Ingold
Alec Ingold Back to full health
Wed, Aug 20, 2025, 7:24 PM
Ingold practiced in full Wednesday, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Ingold entered concussion protocol in early August, but he practiced in full and ditched his no-contact uniform Wednesday. He should be on track to begin the regular season in his typical role as a part-time player on offense as well as a special-teams contributor.
De'Von Achane
De'Von Achane Not practicing Wednesday
Wed, Aug 20, 2025, 12:52 PM
Achane (calf) didn't practice Wednesday, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Louis-Jacques previously relayed that Achane wasn't likely to practice this week, so we wouldn't expect the running back to play in Saturday's preseason finale against the Jaguars. That said, coach Mike McDaniel indicated that the team's approach in terms of Achane's practice participation this week is "preventative in nature," with Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network having previously noted that the plan is for Miami's lead back to be available for the team's Sept. 7 regular season opener against the Colts.
Tyreek Hill
Tyreek Hill Sitting out another practice
Wed, Aug 20, 2025, 10:01 AM
Hill (oblique) is not practicing Wednesday, Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Hill has been on-and-off the practice field due to a lingering oblique injury since early August, though he's been sidelined the majority of the time. Kelly now speculates that the veteran wideout could sit out practice until the start of the regular season, to prioritize getting back to full health in time for Week 1 against the Colts on Sunday, Sept. 7. Overall, Miami's pass-catching corps has been trending in the right direction, with Jaylen Waddle back at practice and TE Darren Waller (undisclosed) having come off the active/PUP list Wednesday, though RB De'Von Achane (calf) seems to be facing a similar recovery timetable to Hill. Expect Hill to sit out Saturday's preseason finale against the Jaguars.
Darren Waller
Darren Waller Removed from PUP list
Wed, Aug 20, 2025, 9:20 AM
The Dolphins activated Waller (undisclosed) from the active/PUP list Wednesday.
Analysis: Waller has spent the entirety of training camp and the preseason to date on the PUP list, reportedly for conditioning reasons after he spent last season in retirement, but he'll now begin practicing. With the veteran tight end having missed Miami's first two preseason games, Saturday's exhibition finale against the Jaguars will be his final chance to shake of the rust with game reps prior to Week 1. Waller projects as the Dolphins' clear top pass-catching tight end, with Julian Hill and Pharaoh Brown available to primarily handle blocking reps. Waller will work to make the most of the next three or so weeks to build chemistry with QB Tua Tagovailoa, acclimate to coach Mike McDaniel's scheme and ramp up into full football shape, with a hopeful eye toward kicking off Week 1 against the Colts on Sunday, Sept. 7 as a full-time starter.
Darren Waller
Darren Waller May practice this week
Mon, Aug 18, 2025, 2:39 PM
Head coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that Waller (undisclosed) could begin practicing this week, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Waller remains on the active/PUP list as he regains his conditioning after unretiring, but the Dolphins likely plan to activate the tight end during the week of practice leading up to Saturday's preseason finale against the Jaguars. Once up to speed, Waller's projected to top a tight end depth chart that also includes Julian Hill and Pharaoh Brown.
De'Von Achane
De'Von Achane Unlikely to practice this week
Mon, Aug 18, 2025, 2:37 PM
Achane is dealing with a calf injury, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Per the report, coach Mike McDaniel noted Monday that the Dolphins don't want Achane's injury to linger, so the running back likely won't practice this week. On the plus side, Wolfe indicates that at this stage, the plan is for Achane to play against the Colts in Week 1.
Ollie Gordon
Ollie Gordon Best RB again in preseason win
Sat, Aug 16, 2025, 5:18 PM
Gordon rushed 10 times for 50 yards during Miami's 24-17 preseason win over Detroit on Saturday.
Analysis: Gordon has looked like the Dolphins' best running back in two consecutive preseason matchups, with his performance Saturday having been vastly superior to Jaylen Wright's four carries for three yards. Head coach Mike McDaniel said Saturday that De'Von Achane (lower body) has a soft-tissue injury, and though he said the starting running back's issue isn't serious, that should provide a window for Gordon and Wright to handle the bulk of first-team reps for the immediate future, as well as potentially start the team's preseason finale against Jacksonville next Saturday. The Dolphins recently placed Alexander Mattison (neck) on season-ending IR due to an injury sustained in the exhibition opener, paving an easier path for one of Gordon or Wright to secure the No. 2 backfield role.
Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright Rough showing in preseason win
Sat, Aug 16, 2025, 5:14 PM
Wright rushed four times for three yards during Miami's 24-17 preseason win over the Lions on Saturday.
Analysis: Wright also fumbled once, though it was recovered by the Dolphins' offense. While Wright struggled to get anything going Saturday, rookie Ollie Gordon impressed with 10 carries for 50 yards, with a long scamper of 19 yards. With Alexander Mattison (neck) done for the year, Wright is competing for a potentially significant role behind starter De'Von Achane (lower body), but unless he can close out the preseason strong during Miami's preseason finale against the Jaguars on Sat., Aug. 23, he could lose tangible ground to Gordon. With Achane now managing a lower body soft-tissue injury, both Wright and Gordon figure to benefit from increased first-team reps at practice next week.
Quinn Ewers
Quinn Ewers Bounces back vs. Lions
Sat, Aug 16, 2025, 5:12 PM
Ewers completed 11 of 17 pass attempts for 116 yards and two touchdowns during Saturday's 24-17 preseason win over Detroit.
Analysis: Ewers bounced back from a rough preseason debut by tossing two touchdowns against the Lions, both of which came in the form of connections to Theo Wease (6-80-2). Arguably Ewers' highlight of the day came in the form of a third-down connection to AJ Henning in the fourth quarter, in which the rookie seventh-round pick connected on a tight window slant that had essentially no room for error. Zach Wilson started Saturday but struggled more than his passing line (15-for-23, 151 yards, one score) might let on. Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said he won't "overreact to results" after just one preseason showing, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports, but Ewers' strong performance might provide him an opportunity to push Wilson for the backup gig behind Tua Tagovailoa if he can finish strong during Miami's exhibition finale against the Jaguars next Saturday.
Zach Wilson
Zach Wilson Tosses one TD in preseason win
Sat, Aug 16, 2025, 5:10 PM
Wilson completed 15 of 23 pass attempts for 151 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 24-17 preseason win over the Lions.
Analysis: Wilson turned in a mixed performance Saturday, highlighted by his first-quarter TD pass to Dee Eskridge, though he also underthrew Eskridge in the second quarter while attempting to connect on a deep pass and was nearly intercepted. He also whiffed on what would have been a TD pass to Tarik Black in the back of the end zone in the first quarter, with that drive ending via a fourth-down sack. In all, Wilson was clearly outshined by Quinn Ewers (11-for-17, 116 yards, two scores), and though coach Mike McDaniel said he's "not going to overreact to results" after one exhibition contest, per Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com, the backup gig behind Tua Tagovailoa may now be a closer competition heading into Miami's preseason finale against the Jaguars next Saturday.
De'Von Achane
De'Von Achane Dealing with soft-tissue injury
Sat, Aug 16, 2025, 4:07 PM
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Saturday that Achane is dealing with a "soft tissue lower body" injury, C. Isaiah Smalls II of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: McDaniel said Achane's injury isn't serious, but it's nonetheless concerning to see the undersized starting running back nursing a soft-tissue injury as Week 1 looms nearer. Per Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com, McDaniel said Achane will be reassessed at team facilities this week but is expected to be out "between days and weeks." Achane sat out Saturday's 24-17 preseason win over the Lions along with the rest of the starting offense, and his status now appears uncertain for the Dolphins' exhibition finale against Jacksonville on Saturday, Aug. 23. With Alexander Mattison (neck) done for the year, Jaylen Wright and rookie sixth-round pick Ollie Gordon figure to benefit from increased first-team reps as long as Achane remains sidelined. Wright struggled on the ground versus Detroit, rushing four times for just three yards, while Gordon turned 10 carries into 50 rushing yards, with a long run of 19 yards.
Jaylen Waddle
Jaylen Waddle Not in line to play Saturday
Fri, Aug 15, 2025, 12:23 PM
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Friday he doesn't plan to play the starters, including Waddle, during Saturday's preseason game against the Lions, Tom D'Angelo of the Palm Beach Post reports.
Analysis: Waddle sat out Miami's preseason opener due to a collision that occurred during joint practices with the Bears, but he returned to practice this week and has participated in team drills against Detroit. He'll need to wait until the Dolphins' preseason finale against the Jaguars on Sat., Aug. 23, however, for a chance to see exhibition reps. Meanwhile, Tyreek Hill (oblique) has not yet returned to practice.
Tua Tagovailoa
Tua Tagovailoa Starters won't play Saturday
Fri, Aug 15, 2025, 12:19 PM
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Friday that he doesn't plan to play Tagovailoa and most starters during Saturday's preseason game against the Lions, David Furones of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Tagovailoa played one drive during Miami's preseason opener against the Bears, completing five of six passes for 27 yards, but he'll rest during the team's second exhibition matchup. Instead, backup Zach Wilson will get the start Saturday while rookie Quinn Ewers enters in relief. Jaylen Waddle returned to team drills this week, but top wideout Tyreek Hill (oblique) remained sidelined Thursday.
Tyreek Hill
Tyreek Hill Not practicing Thursday
Thu, Aug 14, 2025, 11:37 AM
Hill (oblique) won't practice Thursday, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The report suggests that Hill, who has been managing an oblique injury, made a push to be on the field Thursday, but the Dolphins training staff is inclined to play it safe with the wideout in order to avoid a setback. With coach Mike McDaniel having indicated that at this stage he's not planning on using his starters this weekend, per Dante Collinelli of SI.com, Hill's next chance to see game action will occur Saturday, Aug. 23 against the Jaguars.
Jaylen Waddle
Jaylen Waddle Participating in team drills
Thu, Aug 14, 2025, 10:28 AM
Waddle is taking part in team drills at Thursday's joint practice with the Lions, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.
Analysis: Waddle returned to practice Wednesday, also a joint session with the Detroit, though coach Mike McDaniel said his rep count was limited, per David Furones of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. While Waddle's overall workload may still be being managed Thursday, he essentially appears back to full health after having been banged-up during a collision with a Bears defender in last week's joint practices. If McDaniel opts to play the starters during Saturday's exhibition matchup against the Lions, it doesn't appear injuries would prevent Waddle from suiting up.
Jaylen Waddle
Jaylen Waddle Gets back on practice field
Wed, Aug 13, 2025, 9:56 AM
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday that Waddle (undisclosed) will retake the field for joint practices against the Lions, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Waddle continues to recover from a collision suffered during joint practices with the Bears last week, which forced him to miss Miami's preseason opener, so it's encouraging to see him back on the field for joint sessions against Detroit. McDaniel confirmed that Waddle and Tyreek Hill (oblique) both remain "day-to-day," however, so it seems like the pair of starting wideouts will be limited in some capacity while returning to practice. Saturday's road game against Detroit represents Waddle's next opportunity to get on the field for exhibition reps.
Tyreek Hill
Tyreek Hill Returning to practice Wednesday
Wed, Aug 13, 2025, 9:52 AM
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday that Hill (oblique) will participate in joint practices against the Lions but will continue to be monitored "so we can protect him against himself," Tom D'Angelo of the Palm Beach Post reports.
Analysis: McDaniel said Hill and Jaylen Waddle (undisclosed), who will also return to practice Wednesday, both remain "day-to-day." It sounds like Hill's reps will be limited in some capacity, but it's encouraging to see him cleared to participate in joint practices. After his oblique injury forced him to sit out Miami's preseason opener against the Bears, Hill's next opportunity to log exhibition action will arrive Saturday on the road against Detroit.
Alexander Mattison
Alexander Mattison Injury not career-ending
Tue, Aug 12, 2025, 11:07 AM
Mattison (neck), who was placed on season-ending IR on Monday, does not have a career-ending injury, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Mattison suffered a neck injury during Sunday's preseason tie against the Bears that required surgery, and it will cause him to miss the entire 2025 season. It's encouraging that the running back may return in 2026, though given that he inked only a one-year deal with Miami this offseason, it's likely that his next opportunity will come with another organization. With Mattison on IR, both second-year pro Jaylen Wright and rookie sixth-rounder Ollie Gordon will benefit from a clearer path to touches behind starter De'Von Achane.
Darren Waller
Darren Waller Not ready to practice
Tue, Aug 12, 2025, 9:36 AM
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Tuesday that this is "not the week" for Waller to come off the active/PUP list and resume practicing, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: McDaniel had previously expressed optimism that Waller would be back on the field this week, but he said Tuesday that the team doesn't want the veteran tight end to be thrust into joint practices against the Lions immediately upon his return. Waller, who spent last season away from the NFL, began training camp on the PUP list primarily for conditioning reasons. It sounds like he won't be available for Saturday's exhibition matchup in Detroit.
Jaylen Waddle
Jaylen Waddle Labeled day-to-day
Tue, Aug 12, 2025, 9:28 AM
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Tuesday that Waddle (undisclosed) and fellow starting wideout Tyreek Hill (oblique) are both day-to-day, C. Isaiah Smalls II of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: McDaniel said a decision hasn't yet been made on the status of the duo for joint practices against the Lions this week, but that "they're definitely in the conversation" to get reps, per David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. As a result of seemingly minor injuries, both Waddle and Hill sat out Sunday's preseason debut against the Bears, but it sounds like each has a fair chance to get healthy in time for exhibition action Saturday versus Detroit.
